India Clinch Series beating Sri Lanka in 3rd ODI

India took a 3-0 lead in the 5 ODI series against Sri Lanka with a victory today, November 9, 2014 in Hyderabad. Sri Lanka, who won the toss and elected to bat got off to a rocky start and were bowled out for only 242 runs in 48.2 overs. India got to their target (245) in 44.1 overs at the loss of only 4 wickets.

Indian Innings

After restricting Sri Lanka to 242 in 48.2 overs, India’s opener Shikhar Dhawan played a stellar knock and forged useful partnerships with Ajinkya Rahane (31) and Ambati Rayadu (35) to lead India to victory. He fell 9 short of his century, given out caught to a ball that deflected off his helmet. Indian captain Virat Kohli also contributed with a solid 53. During the course of his innings he became the fastest ever to cross 6000 runs in ODIs.

Sri Lankan Innings

For Sri Lanka, Jayawardene scored his 17th century from 109 balls. He also became the fifth batsman to score 12,000 runs in One-Day Internationals.

Player of the Match:

Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene was named the Player of the Match for his stellar century despite the loss of his team. Jayawardene’s knock of 118 runs came in only 124 balls with a strike rate of 95%!
