1st ODI – India beat Sri Lanka by 169 runs

In the first One Day International between India and Sri Lanka which took place in Cuttack today, the Indian team defeated the visitors by a whopping 169 runs! India amassed 363/5 in 50 overs batting first, but Sri Lanka were bowled out for only 194 rus in 39.4 overs.

Indian Innings

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field. India got a great start with both opening batsmen taking centuries. Ajinkya Rahane scored 111 runs and Shikhar Dhawan scored 113 runs. Raina also made a notable contribution of 52 runs taking the total of the Indian team to 363/5 in 50 overs. For Sri Lanka, S. Randiv was the most successful bowler, who took the wickets of Rahane, Raina and Kohli(22 runs) conceding 78 runs in his allotted 10 overs.

Sri Lankan Innings

India kept the Sri Lankan batsmen under pressure from the beginning by taking wickets at regular intervals. Sri Lanka lost their first wicket at 31 when their opener Dilshan fell after taking only 18 runs. Ishant Sharma was the best bowler on the Indian side taking 4 wickets conceding only 34 runs in 8 overs.

Man of the Match

Ajinkya Rahane was named the Man of the Match of the 1st ODI. Here’s what he had to say after the match “The first 10 overs were slightly challenging but later on it got really easy for us. Shikhar and I really enjoyed batting in the middle. The team asked me to open so I was happy to open. We’ve started really well and will take one game at a time.”
