India amass 404 runs and beat Sri Lanka by 153 runs in 4th ODI

India today, scored 404 runs, the ninth highest score in an innings by any team in a One Day International facing Sri Lanka in the 4th ODI at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. In reply, the visitors were only able to score 251 runs in 43.1 overs.

Indian Innings

The highlight of the Indian innings was the World Record breaking performance by batsman Rohit Sharma who scored 264 runs, the highest by any cricketer in an ODI. Virat Kohli, who has been the Captain of the Indian team for this ODI Cricket Series against Srilanka also made a notable contribution of 66 runs.

Sri Lankan Innings

Sri Lanka had a humongous task ahead of them, looking at a score of 405 runs to win the match. However, their innings got off to a rocky start, losing opener Perera in the very first over. At the end of the ninth over, Sri Lanka had scored only 48 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. After that, the Sri Lankan batsmen tried to put up a fight, but were bowled out for 251 runs in 43.1 overs. Bowler Dhawal Kulkarni did a spectacular job, taking 4 wickets for India, giving away only 34 runs in 10 overs.

Player of the Match:

Indian batsman Rohit Sharma was named the Player of the Match for his historic, record breaking contribution to the Indian side. Sharma broke the World Record for Highest Individual Score in an ODI of 219 set by fellow Indian batsman, Virender Sehwag.
In addition to becoming the Batsman with the Highest Individual Score in an ODI, Rahul Sharma, today also earned the distinction of becoming the only player in history to score two double centuries in One Day International Cricket. His first Double century was against Australia in 2013.
Quoting the commentators of today’s game, “India beat Sri Lanka by 153 runs and Rohit Sharma beat Sri Lanka by 13 runs!!!”
