Pakistan Cricketer Haris Sohail sees ghost and misses game

Pakistani cricketer Haris Sohail claimed that he was woken up in the middle of the night by a “supernatural” presence in his hotel room in Christchurch. Team manager, Naveed Akram Cheema told reporters that Sohail woke up to find his bed shaking and was traumatized by the event.

The incident took place at the Rydges Latimer hotel in Christchurch, New Zealand. The Pakistan Cricket Team officials have tried to downplay the event since, attributing it to the fever that Haris Sohail was suffering from at the time.

Sohail reportedly spent the rest of the night in the coach’s room at the Rydges Latimer hotel in Christchurch before being moved to another room. He was so traumatized by the incident that he was unable to play for two days and missed the Pakistan team’s warm-up match against the New Zealand President’s XI.

More cricketers who have had encounters with ghosts

Surprisingly, Sohail is not the first cricketer who has claimed to have seen a ghost in a hotel room.

England fast bowler Stuart Broad switched rooms at London’s Langham Hotel last year after a ghostly experience. Broad told the Daily Mail newspaper he had woken in the night and “all of a sudden the taps in the bathroom came on for no reason. I turned the lights on and the taps turned themselves off. Then when I turned the lights off again, the taps came on. It was very weird.”

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has also famously reported a ghost sighting at England’s Lumley Castle Hotel in 2005. He claimed to have seen the ghost of “Lily of Lumley”, the lady of the castle who had been murdered in the castle and refused to sleep in his own room. Watson reportedly ran down to the reception in his underwear after the incident and slept on the floor in his teammate Bret Lee’s room.

Lumley Castle is supposedly haunted by the spirit of a 14th Century lady of the manor, Lily Lumley. She was apparently murdered by two priests after she refused to follow the Catholic faith. It is believed she was thrown down a well on the castle grounds. According to legends, she continues to haunt the castle to this day, wandering the corridors and rooms, spooking guests and staff alike.

Lady Lumley also spooked the West Indian cricket team in 2000, when the then captain of the team, Jimmy Adams and his team checked out of the hotel early because they were too scared to stay in the haunted hotel.
